How does Counseling Work at Nazareth Ministries?
How Does Counseling Work at Nazareth Ministries?
Counseling, at Nazareth Ministries, is a process that uses the bible as the primary source for counseling and interventions to demonstrate caring that have been designed to offer effective, long-lasting help for people suffering from a wide range of difficulties. These difficulties can range from emotional distress, worry, marital strife, fears, a significant loss, to varies spiritual conflicts. Counseling can also help fulfill and jump start aspirations for personal and spiritual growth.
Christians are interested in more than human ability with its patterns and ways of coping with life that exclude God. Counseling , at Nazareth Ministries, works because it doesn't rely merely on the human effort, or merely helping people make choices and take responsibility about their issues and concerns without considering prayer, the Word of God, and guidance from the Holy Spirit. For practicing Christians it is their lifestyle to live by faith, instead of simply relying on their own strength, or just the support of others, but they depend on the Living , infinite, and personal God of the Holy Scriptures to help them.
Counseling, at Nazareth Ministries, works because it encourages people with specific issues and concerns to learn how to cope spiritually, to live more responsibly, and to trust God to help them abstain from negative thinking and behaviors. It is important to remember no counseling program in the world can set a person free, only Christ can set an individual free. The empowering presence of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers not only changes how a person behaves, but also what he/she believes when coupled with faith in the Holy Scripture regarding God's promises and God's provisions. Counseling that excludes prayer, the Word of God, and the Holy Spirit "may" help a person cope and behave properly in society, but Christ is the only true liberator from the bondage, obstacle, and weight of sin. Most counseling help you "do" what is right, Christian counseling encourages you to "be" what is right.
When to Seek Therapy
Sometimes you need to talk to someone, someone who can help you in both a practical and spiritual way. When you feel like you can't do it alone... When you feel trapped, like there's nowhere to turn... When you worry all the time, and never seem to find the answers... When the way you feel is affecting your sleep, your eating habits, your job, your faith, your relationships, your everyday life... When even the advice offered by family or well-meaning friends doesn't really help you feel any better. Recognizing the need for help is a good first step towards improvement. Spiritual Guidance Counseling can be of real benefit, providing help for a wide range of problems. It can also help fulfill aspirations for personal or spiritual growth. Spiritual Guidance Counseling has one clear and definite purpose: that something life changing will come out of it for you that will strengthen your relationship with God, yourself, and others.
Some of the most common reasons for seeking help from therapy include:
Emotional Distress
From time to time, everyone experiences emotional pain. But sometimes the distress is particularly severe or long-lasting and interferes with your ability to function in your daily life. If you are experiencing this type of emotional distress that is persistent and is not going away easily, then counseling can help relieve the symptoms, address the underlying causes for your distress, and provide you with help in restoring emotional well-being.
Personal Growth
Counseling can help you overcome obstacles that have kept you from reaching your goals and becoming the person God wants you to be. If you have dealt with any clinical condition or symptoms, then counseling can help you learn more about yourself, others, and how you can live your life with deeper personal and spiritual satisfaction.
Relationship Issues
Your issues and concerns may be coming from difficulties in your relationship with a spouse, parent, child, co-worker or someone else. Counseling can be valuable in helping you understand the root of the problem and providing you with the understanding and skills you need to improve the relationship.
Coping Mechanisms
Sometimes emotional distress or relationship problems are associated with coping mechanisms, such as excessive shyness, poor communication, lack of assertiveness, or inability to control anger. Spiritual Guidance Counseling can enable you to acquire or strengthen skills that can benefit many of the most important areas and relationships of your life.
Loss
Experiencing a break from someone who is important to you (through death, separation. break-up, divorce; etc) can result in great emotional pain. Counseling can be significantly helpful in coping with the loss.
Identity Problems/Esteem
Victims of low self-esteem can feel so overwhelmed by feelings of inferiority, lack of significance, or unworthiness that their ability to function effectively in everyday life is significantly impaired. Spiritual Guidance Counseling can help provide a safe, confidential setting in which to discuss insecurity issues with a caring, supportive person and find ways to move forward with your life.
Spiritual Conflicts
While it may be embarrassing to talk about ongoing sinful activities, back-sliding conditions, and uncertainties about one's relationship with God these are very common problems in the church. Counseling can help bring understanding to one's spiritual conflicts and help individuals overcome issues and concerns that may be impairing their relationship with God.
Other issues and concerns
Clients have many issues and concerns not listed above. It is our mission is to help clients to recover their emotional and spiritual balance, with strategies and actions, so they can live the life God intended for them to live. Counseling, at Nazareth Ministries, is committed to helping people grow personally and spiritually. Our orientation also offers an excellent opportunity for individuals to discover their identity in Christ, know God in a deeper way, and learn ways to become independently depended on God for their issues and concerns.
